Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement
The school implements a comprehensive assessment system that generates a range of data about student learning and school effectiveness and uses the results to guide continuous improvement.
IndIcator 5.1
The school establishes and maintains a clearly defined and comprehensive student assessment system.
The following assessments are given to Cedar Rapids Public School students:
**NWEA Measure of Academic Progress (spring and fall) for K-12
**NeSA--Writing, Reading, Math, Science 3-8 and 11th grades
**PLAN
**DIBELS Next--K-6 (fall, winter, and spring)
**Check 4 Learning (as used by teachers)
**ACT--students who choose to do so for college entrance
IndIcator 5.2
Professional and support staff continuously collect, analyze, and apply learning from a range of data sources, including comparison and trend data about student learning, instruction, program evaluation, and organizational conditions.
K-6 staff collect and analyze student reading data on a regular basis. The ERI consultant also goes over this data with them during her monthly visits.
All staff participate in data retreats.
IndIcator 5.3
Professional and support staff are trained in the evaluation, interpretation, and use of data.
ESU 7 Staff developer presented an inservice for all teachers in the interpretation of NWEA MAP assessments.
Teachers involved with NeSA have access to videos and handbooks for guidance. Also, teachers have access to
Check 4 Learning to develop practice assessments.
IndIcator 5.4
The school engages in a continuous process to determine verifiable improvement in student learning, including readiness for and success at the next level.
Staff members have the benefit of small classes and are able to continually monitor student progress. Concerns are brought to, and addressed by the Student Assistance Team when students need additional support.
IndIcator 5.5
Leadership monitors and communicates comprehensive information about student learning, conditions that support student learning, and the achievement of school improvement goals to stakeholders.
Assessment reports are given as part of the Annual School District Report to Patrons.
