Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems
The school has resources and provides services that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students.
IndIcator 4.1
Qualified professional and support staff are sufficient in number to fulfill their roles and responsibilities necessary to support the school’s purpose, direction, and the educational program.
Cedar Rapids Public School has sufficient staff to carry out its mission of providing a quality education to create responsible, lifelong learners. Although there has been a reduction in staff the past couple of years, with declining enrollment it is appropriate. Several para professionals have been hired to assist in classrooms, with 1 student benefitting from a 1:1 para. A part-time reading mastery teacher will also be added for the 2013-14 school year.
IndIcator 4.2
Instructional time, material resources, and fiscal resources are sufficient to support the purpose and direction of the school.
Each teacher is provided planning time each day. Requisitions each spring and as need throughout the year are accepted and budgeted for on an annual basis. The school has a healthy cash reserve, building, and depreciation fund which allows for necessary expenditures to support teachers and students.
IndIcator 4.3
The school maintains facilities, services, and equipment to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for all students and staff.
Two full time custodians as well as contracted cleaning services for the elementary building keep the facility safe, clean, and healthy. The school is inspected on a regular basis by our insurance company. Our annual Rule 10 safety/security visit is conducted each year by a retired superintendent whose services are contracted for each year.
IndIcator 4.4
Students and school personnel use a range of media and information resources to support the school’s educational programs.
With the 1:1 laptop initiative and the plethora of web resources, staff and students enjoy the use of unlimited resources to support learning. Teachers also incorporate the use of Smartboards and applications to aid learning. All classrooms are outfitted with projectors and smart boards. Streamed educational videos are available from LEARN 360.
IndIcator 4.5
The technology infrastructure supports the school’s teaching, learning, and operational needs.
CRPS recently added a new server and wireless system to handle the increased traffic of the 1:1 initiative. Wireless access points are appropriately placed throughout the building and provides reliable and continuous access.
IndIcator 4.6
The school provides support services to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of the student population being served.
CRPS has a half-time guidance counselor, physical education/health teacher, and caring staff members who support the needs of all students. Students needing further support are given information and recommendations to other professionals who may be of help. Central Nebraska Community Services and Boone Co. Clinic have professionals on staff who are available to help students.
IndIcator 4.7
The school provides services that support the counseling, assessment, referral, educational, and career planning needs of all students.
Career planning begins with the middle grade students. Students use the Nebraska Career Connections to create Personal Learning Plans and store career documents. All students receive information on careers and educational requirements to attain the certification or employment. This past year, middle grade students were also able to tour an area community college. High school students are visited by many college representatives, have benefit of college tours, guest speakers, and job shadowing. Students also attend career fairs and chaperoned by the school counselor. CRPS works closely with Vocational Rehab to support post graduation activities.
The school has resources and provides services that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students.
