Standard 2: Governance and Leadership
The school operates under governance and leadership that promote and support student performance and school effectiveness.
IndIcator 2.1
The governing body establishes policies and supports practices that ensure effective administration of the school.
Cedar Rapids Public School has policies and procedures in place which reflect federal, state, and local guidelines in their day-to-day operations. School policies are reviewed on a regular basis and are being posted on our school website as updates are made. Student, Parent, and Staff handbooks are updated and approved annually. Handbooks are sent home with students and also posted on the district's website.

The governing body operates responsibly and functions effectively.
Cedar Rapids Public School Board of Education follow the proper laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure policies are in place and followed. School board members regularly attend state NRCSA and NASB conventions and meetings.As elected members to represent their patrons, board members are active in the community and support student and staff activities.

The governing body ensures that the school leadership has the autonomy to meet goals for achievement and instruction and to manage day-to-day operations effectively.
CRPS board of education has adopted operating procedures to insure proper protocol for operations. Grievance procedures and chain of command are communicated in school policies and handbooks.

Leadership and staff foster a culture consistent with the school’s purpose and direction.
The board of education, administration, and staff work together through the Essential Planning Team committees to support a positive school climate in order to provide optimal educational opportunities for our youth.

Leadership engages stakeholders effectively in support of the school’s purpose and direction.
The creation of the district's Essential Planning Team, which meets 4 times per year, allows for stakeholder participation and input into the school community.
IndIcator 2.6
Leadership and staff supervision and evaluation processes result in improved professional practice and student success.
All Cedar Rapids Public School teachers are evaluated regularly. Tenured staff are observed and evaluated annually, while our probationary staff are evaluated once each semester. Walk-through observations are also completed by the school principal on a regular basis and frequent classroom visits by the principal are also the norm. Teachers are also expected to set professional development goals and these goals are monitored by the principal.
